Hybrid Cars....^_^!!

Thinking to cut down oil expenditure??? Trying to save Environment??? Thinking to trade your car for better mileage???

Oh Oh!! You gotta check out the Hybrid Cars....

The Main Concept that Hybrid cars work on is creating a propulsion with more than one form of energy that's possible... Something like trying different combinations of energy.... Sounds cool Huh??? (well, Its a scientific invention.... Appreciate....)

I wanna share some original facts about Hybrid Cars....! It's really interesting that it goes on under the hood to give you 20 or 30 more miles per gallon than the standard automobile.

This concept is not very new to us.... We already have seen Mo-Peds (a motorized pedal bike). Mo-Peds are a type of hybrid because it combines the power of a gasoline engine with the pedal power of its rider. There are diesel-electric buses -- these can draw electric power from overhead wires or run on diesel when they are away from the wires. Giant mining trucks are often diesel-electric hybrids.

Any vehicle that combines two or more sources of power that can directly or indirectly provide propulsion power is a hybrid

The gasoline-electric hybrid car is just what it sounds like -- a cross between a gasoline-powered car and an electric car. Let's start with a few diagrams to explain the differences between a gasoline-powered car and a typical electric car.

A gas-powered car has a fuel tank, which supplies gasoline to the engine. The engine then turns a transmission, which turns the wheels.

To be useful to you or me, a car must meet certain minimum requirements. The car should be able to:

  • Drive at least 300 miles (482 km) between re-fueling
  • Be refueled quickly and easily
  • Keep up with the other traffic on the road

A gasoline car meets these requirements but produces a relatively large amount of pollution and generally gets poor gas mileage. An electric car, however, produces almost no pollution, but it can only go 50 to 100 miles (80 to 161 km) between charges. And the problem has been that the electric car is very slow and inconvenient to recharge.

A gasoline-electric car combines these two setups into one system that leverages both gas power and electric power.

A hybrid Structure combines Gasoline engine, Fuel Tank, Electric Motor, Generator, Batteries, Transmission.

You can combine the two power sources found in a hybrid car in different ways. One way, known as a parallel hybrid, has a fuel tank that supplies gasoline to the engine and a set of batteries that supplies power to the electric motor. Both the engine and the electric motor can turn the transmission at the same time, and the transmission then turns the wheels.

By contrast, in a series hybrid (below), the gasoline engine turns a generator, and the generator can either charge the batteries or power an electric motor that drives the transmission. Thus, the gasoline engine never directly powers the vehicle.

The structure of a hybrid car harnesses two sources of power to increase efficiency and provide the kind of performance most of us are looking for in a vehicle

  • Its only a matter of 20 to 30 miles...why should i buy a hybrid car then???

  • Satish: Thank you *_*!! Sure u will find many more...I'm just too lazy to post... but not anymore...

    Athul: Thanks Athul :)

Swetha: Swetha, first of all look at the gas rates... they r just increasing day by day... before it was less than a dollar per gallon and now its about $3.00 .... just to fill the tank in my car it takes about $40... isn't that expensive??? and Hybrid cars add up to the enviornment protection...

  • nice blog u have here... but hybrid cars are really really rare in india.. u have only electric cars.. the only hybrid cars that run on indian roads are imported from the us or someother country..

  • It's not as simple though. Its not just about having alternate power source. The series Hybrids have less polution and more milage cuz electricity is considered a pure form of energy in terms of convertability. If your engine drives your car directly it has to go in sync with your speed. It's easy to see how inefficient it gets when you compare it to a hybrid, where the engine always runs at the optimum RPM(the point where you get best milage in normal cars) and gives more energy while making little pollution. The electric motor, can be electronically controlled for desired speed without much loss in power if any and 0 pollution.

PS: check out www.teslamotors.com. Their roadster is really promising and I'm already in love with it.
